Earlier I wrote this invitation to Cultural Literacy.

This is my invitation to join an online Reading Group this winter. I want to share something like the experience of the Cultural Literacy Seminar discussed in the article linked above. At the same time, I want to highlight some of the recent essays explaining the current state of Europe and Western culture in general. I would love to share this journey with you.

What?

We have four online meetings on Thursdays (evenings in Europe) in February / March 2025. It would be great to welcome you every time, but it is not a problem to join only once or twice.

When?

Thursday, February 13

Thursday, February 27

Thursday, March 13

Thursday, March 27

Each Live Session is at 20:00-21:30 Continental European Time / 7 PM - 8:30 PM (UK) / 2 PM - 3:30 PM (Toronto/Eastern Time)

The Zoom room opens 10-15 minutes early and remains open till 30 minutes past closing time. The link will be shared in the welcome email.

How does it work?

Before our meeting: One week before our meeting, I will mail you the text and a few questions for reflection. I invite you to write one or two paragraphs of reflection.

During our meeting: 20-30 minutes of introduction, and 60 minutes of discussion.

During our online time, I will start with an introduction of the text, perhaps some additional background about the author and some observations (max 30 min.)

After the introduction, we have one hour of discussion. I want to give you the opportunity to share your reflection if you want to do that. We will discuss questions about the text and anything else that seems relevant.

After our meeting: I will try to set up a discussion forum where we can continue the conversation. You can also post your reflections there, in particular if you did not get the chance to share them during the live session. This will serve as our archive, and you will keep access to it as long as this website remains online.

How do I sign up?

Just sign up for the general mailing list and you will automatically receive invitations for the four sessions throughout February and March.
